Our kitchen!

In this post, I mentioned how at our house most mistakes are made in the kitchen. This statement is true for both me and Tyler. We both have good memories (not just in this particular kitchen, but in two others as well) and laughs about mishaps while attempting something new in the kitchen. With this all said, here is the place where are mistakes are made now and will be for a while. We love our kitchen, as it is open to the living and dining area of the house. The generous counter space is a plus too!

Half of the pantry.

The other half of the pantry (directly across from what is shown in the above photo) is where all the small (and large) kitchen appliances live. There are many shelves, and are full and cluttery, so this is why there is not a picture. ha!

More of the house to come soon!

10 months - November 22, 2009

10 Months old!

There is something about that double digit number that makes you seem so old and mature! Again, what another fun month we have spent together. Oh how I just enjoy you. Your sweet personality is so big and bold, and when we walk into a room people can't help but notice what a presence you bring. We noticed this month that you have dimples on both cheeks when you flash your big smile! How beautiful you really are.

This month you have been sick with a nasty ear infection, but were so tough and recovered so quickly. Oh being sick is no fun! Thankfully, you are right back to your normal, healthy self! This month you have also started working on learning all kinds of new things! Waving, high fives, standing on your own, and learning your animals. You are such a curious little creature and you love to explore. I can't take my eyes off of you for a second! That is ok, though, you will never hear me complain about having to be with you.

Anslee you truly have made motherhood a pleasant joy for me. You are easy. You are happy. There is nothing about being your mommy that is not favorable. You really have become my best little friend.

I have never felt more accomplished, rewarded, and satisfied in my life. I have never done anything that I enjoy more!

Thank you for making this experience nothing but pure joy and so much fun. God has truly granted me EVERY desire of my heart now that you are with us. Praise God for sweet babies like you who make my life so rich.

I love you,
Mama

Where we live

Well we have been in our new home now for almost 2 months. I can't even begin to express how much I love our space. It did not take us long to move in and get settled, however, it has taken us a while to get organized and have things just as we want them. I have put off this post for just too long!

We just love Brownwood. We have made lots of new friends, and it came surprisingly easy to do so. All the couples we have met have become dear to us already. We have even had a few "get togethers" with all the babies. What is kind ironic, is all the young couples that we have had the pleasure of getting to know have also just recently moved here. Each week at church there has been a new young couple to come and visit, so I really feel like Brownwood holds opportunities for young families like ours! Its been such a blessing, and we are so very thankful to be here making friends and of course close to our families.

I have decided to post pictures of our home in segments, showing different parts of the house in separate blog entries. Today you will get a 360 degree look at the outside of our home.

The Front!

So this post is at least a start to showing you all our space. We have decided to paint two rooms before the Christmas holidays, so those two rooms will probably be the last to be posted. The other rooms are show ready and will be posted on soon! Slowly but surely, you will all be invited in!

Oh and here is a video of Anslee just because what would a blog post be without a little bit of this cuteness?

Sick is never fun!

Well it finally happened. My sweet baby got sick for the first time in her short life! We knew this day would come eventually, but we were not prepared. Here is a re-cap of last night/yesterday:

6:50 am and Anslee is up talking. This is very unusual for our house. Anslee really never wakes up before 7:20, even though I am always listening for her from about 6:30 on each morning. In my mind I am going through my options. Do I go in there? Do I just wait until "time" to get her? I go back and forth and back forth. I know you other parents can relate big time here. Questioning myself, then feeling frustrated like, well if she just would not have woken up early then all would be well. Ha! Anyway, "talking" turns into fussing and crying and at that point my decision was basically made for me. I go in. Anslee's poor hands were cold! Her nose was runny! I was glad to see it was clear though. I clearly know why she is up early now. I clean her up, and take her temp. 98.1. She acts normal, but I decided to call the doctor anyway. He said 1/4 tsp of benadryl for the runny nose. Thank goodness we had some here already.

We got about our day as normal. She was not eating as well as she normally did, but I knew she was not feeling her absolute best so I did not worry too much about that. I let her play, we read books, and did everything like we usually do. Her nose seemed to stop running after the meds kicked in. I was pleased! Then, she took a nap that lasted over 2 hours, (her naps rarely go past 1.5 hours b/c she sleeps 12 hour at night)and I thought that was odd, but she had medicine, so again I did not worry about it.

Bed time rolls around! 7:10 pm and baby girl is OUT. Tyler and I eat and its Tuesday, so of course we are watching the Biggest Loser.

8:50 pm and Anslee wakes up. Ok. SO not normal. We wait out the crying for a little while, then decided that clearly today was a little off, and we needed to check in on her. Tyler picks her up, holds her and then I of course come and grab her. She is crying pretty hard so I am doing my best to comfort her. I hold her close and pat her back, and then it came.

vomit like I had never seen. I was covered. Her "my best chair" was covered. She was covered. Oh. and then it kept coming. I started to cry with her because all I could do was let her throw up. I could not throw up for her, I could not make her tummy feel better. This was hard for me emotionally. We clean her up. We bulb syringe her runny nose. Oh no. This time it was green. Green means infection. I call the doctor, and he tells me take her off milk, and replace it with pedialyte, continue the benadryl and even give some tylenol. Whoa, thats a lot of medicine.

I offer the pedialyte. She starts taking it well, and about 2.5 ounces into it, she throws it all up again. Again we are all covered in it. Grape pedialyte. Smells good. We clean her up again, rub her back and put her back down. She pretty much fell right back to sleep until 5:40 this morning. I again debate, but this time not for too long. I knew she was not feeling well so I went in and got her. Behind all the snot she is all smiles and laughs. Oh no. Not at 5:40 in the morning. I bulb syringe the snot again. All green. I realize she is probably hungry too, since she had basically thrown up all that was inside of her last night and offer no more than 3 ounces of pedialyte. She takes it, and I hold her for a little bit, but the whole time I am holding her she is wanting to get down and play. She kept pointing at her toys and was laughing. Not at 5:40. I lay her back down and 15 minutes later she is back to sleep.

Planning on going into to see our new doctor this morning, so please pray this is the worst it will be! I hate seeing her sick.

I still can't believe it finally happened.

My Baby top 5,

This blog post is dedicated to those baby products that this Mama could not live without! I am always interested in knowing what products other Mommies favor, so I thought I would throw in what works in our home.

# 5

Baby Einstein Sleep/Wake up Songs and Praise Baby DVD.
When we brought Anslee home, I needed all the advice I could get about parenting. One thing I read, and also heard many other Mom's say was that babies find comfort when surrounded by soft noises. Every night we fall asleep to the songs that are on this CD that were burned on to my old ipod. It drowns out any noises, so it really helps us not have to be so careful about how loud we are while she sleeps! The Praise Baby DVD is not a product we use every single day, but when we put it on, Anslee lights up! Its a collection of praise songs playing to different colored shapes, numbers, kids playing, and it also displays the ABC's. She loves hearing the music and since she does not watch much TV, she enjoys being able to watch the shapes and such flash across the screen.

# 4

Hylands Teething Tablets
These homeopathic, all natural tablets provide nothing less than INSTANT pain relief for little ones enduring the pain of cutting teeth! Since they are all natural they are very safe. So safe, that the label on the bottle says you can give 3 every hour. I have never had the need to do that, because the relief is instant and lasts from morning to night time with us. However, I only give them to her when she is extra fussy, and drooling a lot. They allow for teething to not disrupt sleep, and that may be why I love them so very much!

# 3

Making baby food has been such a fun activity for me. I am so thankful to my mom for introducing me to the Kid Co. baby food maker/processor. It makes pureeing baby food easy, and gets the consistency of any vegetable, fruit, meat, and cereal to be just right! After I had been using the Kid Co. for a couple weeks, I found a post here on a blog that I frequent saying that she used it too. I trust this Mom (even though I don't know her) with any baby question I have, so I was comforted to know she was using the same product to make her babies food as well.

# 2

Aveeno has been my favorite baby wash and shampoo. I photographed here the sensitive skin body wash and lotion because my sweet little one has very sensitive and dry skin. We have tried an array of other brands, including the organic, and fragrance free, and other sensitive skin brands and have decided that none compare! These two products are two that we use every single day. Our pediatrician in Waco also recommended this brand above all others. We laughed about how Johnsons is very well marketed, but that clearly, it is just not as good quality as Aveeno.

# 1

I read lots of books. When I was pregnant, I read pregnancy books. I frequented all the baby websites and signed up for all of their weekly emails on development per week of pregnancy. When Anslee was born, I was reading baby development book (Week by Week your Baby's First Year) and I read parenting magazines. After she was born my weekly pregnancy emails turned into baby development emails. I read blogs. Lets be honest, I needed all the help I could get. I will say, though, that nothing helped me enjoy parenting as much as these 3 books. They are books that teach you how to handle/parent/nurture your new baby. They help you understand the importance of a regular (but not rigid) routine. Loving your baby comes natural, but sometimes parenting and even nurturing do not. These 3 books help you in those areas, and they help you set up a new lifestyle for your family with the new addition. The first book (top) is Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. Its a wonderful book that teaches the E.A.S.Y style of parenting. (Eat,Activity,Sleep,YOU) What a wonderful gift. I loved this book. The other two are the first two books of the WISE series by Dr. Gary Ezzo. These two are titled Baby-Wise and Baby-Wise II. The first one will take you pretty well through your first year with baby, but really puts heavy emphasis on the first 6 months. The sequel pretty well picks up from 5 - 12 months. He teaches the importance of having a routine that looks something like this : feed. wake time. nap time. He gets into detail, about how much food they should be taking at each feeding at each stage (month) of life. He talks to moms of multiples. He talks about breastfeeding. He discusses reflux and growth spurts. He gives you cues to watch for. He talks about teething. He gives suggestions on how to over come any sleep problems. He talks about a bed time routine and how babies clearly understand routine and what that means. He notes in his books that they are comforted by knowing what to expect, and they do come to understand the set up of their day...if you teach it to them. Needless to say, both books set up your day basically the same. Hogg adds in time for YOU after the baby naps. I love that. I love that mom does not get left out of the day. I am so thankful to mommy friends who so lovingly shared the gift of these books. They have really shaped the way Tyler and I parent Anslee, and have been a major part of why we truly enjoy parenthood as much as we do.

Like I mentioned in the first part of this post, I could go on and on with different items I could highlight. I could talk about how Dr. Browns bottles have worked best for us or how we use bed time calm bath gel in the bath water and so on and so on...but I felt the need to share what I did!

I would love feedback on YOUR top baby items! This could be almost as good as sharing recpies, right?
